Galago Pro an Ubuntu alternative to the Macbook?

The System76 company has launched the official announcement of a new laptop of its brand, a laptop that will have Ubuntu as its operating system, like the rest of its computers.

This laptop will be called galago-pro, a name that is quite separate from its rival but not from its users. Galago Pro will compete with the retina macbook and with those users who seek an ultrabook with high performanceAnd the new System76 laptop has quite powerful hardware and some very interesting previous configurations that will make us have a laptop with an Intel Core i7 with 32 GB of ram and more than 512 GB of internal storage via ssd disk. But these are some configurations that we can customize in Galago Pro since by default it will not have either the i7 or 32 Gb of ram.

System76 continues to bet on Ubuntu for its Galago Pro team

Galago Pro will feature an Intel Kaby Lake architecture, which can be an i5 or i7 processor. The supported ram memory is up to 32Gb of ram, but the base memory will be less. The GPU will be Intel Graphics 620, a graphic that will share operation with the processor and the rest of the laptop's components, but that will play a great role.

The Galago Pro screen has a size of 13,3 inches with IPS technology and HiDPI resolution, similar to the retina technology of the macbook. In terms of ports, the laptop will have a sd card reader, 2 USB 3.0 ports, a USB-C port, an HDMI port, miniHDMI and the classic headphone and microphone ports.

The equipment will weigh less than 500 gr. and its dimensions will be reduced although this will not make it stop being functional, something similar to what happens with macbooks. But its strong point is not in the weight but rather in the price. The Galago Pro will start with a base price of $ 899, a fairly low price for such a team.

System76 is a company that sells computers and laptops, its main attraction is that it has always opted for Ubuntu as the default operating system, so Galago Pro could be a serious and interesting alternative to the retina macbook, although it seems that System76 will not be the only company that does. What do you think of this ultrabook? Do you think the System76 and Ubuntu laptop will unseat the macbook with retina?

I prefer a clean laptop and put the operating systems ... Like now. I have linux mint and windows 7 ... There are still things that depend on it ...

That is a vile lie. In linux you can do everything. I'm telling you, I'm a designer and I work with Linux every day.

I have a Dual Boot Windows7 / Ubuntu 16.04.2 laptop and Unity gets along very well with that machine. It remains to be seen how it works in the Galago Pro.

Being a bit optimistic is never a bad thing, but to speak of a small, barely known company being able to unseat a single model from a complete range of one of the greats in the industry I think is overdoing it! Hahaha! Be careful, a Linux mint user says it for years who does not even consider buying any Apple product.
Let's face it, if this brand were given the advertising coverage that those from Cupertino have, it could steal some sales, but while something like this comes I wish System76 all possible success and everyone who works on similar initiatives to grow the Linux community. .
