Geary could become GNOME's official email client

Geary on elementary OS

As long as I can remember, Thunderbird has been the default mail client installed in Ubuntu. Personally I have never liked it and currently I use Gmail in Franz (along with other web-apps). Whenever I have played Thunderbird I have felt as if I was facing an old program, something that has not happened to me when I have tried Geary, a mail client which we talk to you recently and that could gain relevance in the near future.

That is what we understand when we enter this link. On the official page of the GNOME project they are discussing whether Geary is renamed GNOMEMail, something they would do thinking of becoming the / an official email client of the famous graphical environment. On the website where they are evaluating this change, they are also discussing other functions to add or modify in this attractive email client, among which we have a responsive interface, correct a bug in the calendar integration or improve searches.

Will Geary / GNOME Mail be the official Ubuntu mail client?

"Hello everyone, we are trying to list some obstacles, which should be considered obstacles to renaming" Geary "as" GNOME Mail ", eg possible problems that can prevent" Geary "from becoming / the official GNOME mail client".

The topics they are discussing are about:

  • Usability
  • «Luxuries» that are of more.
  • Feature parity is not required to outperform other clients.
  • They seek user satisfaction of 95%.

The only thing we know for sure is that Geary is working to improve your email client to see if it can gain importance in GNOME. With the information we have and without any official statement, all we can say would be speculation. What catches our attention and the reason why we wanted to share this information with all of you is that the debate is taking place on the official GNOME page, the graphical environment that Ubuntu returned to with the release of Ubuntu 18.10.

The standard version of Ubuntu has used Thunderbird for a long time and it seems difficult that they will change, but not impossible. Would you like Geary to change their name to GNOME Mail and, more importantly, get them to become Ubuntu's default mail client?

    Hey.
I think you have some confusion. The default email client in Ubuntu is Thunderbird, that's correct. But Thunderbird belongs to Mozilla, therefore it has nothing to do with Gnome. The email client for the project is Evolution.
With this movement I suppose that instead of starting a project from scratch they prefer to add to the project a client who is already mature and has a journey.
    A greeting.

Hi everyone, I have been a Geary user for a long time. And I am delighted. Now, like any email client, it has its advantages and disadvantages.
The main advantages lie in its "elegance" (and that depends on the tastes of each one) and its "simplicity / minimalism" (it is very Gnome).
And its main disadvantage is that you do not have all that potential for extensions and extra functions that Thunderbird has.
Ahh a detail, Thunderbird can only be installed on one computer, while Geary can be installed on several. (An important detail, because if you are like me, who works with two computers, one for the office and the other for "travel", you will prefer to have the same programs on both computers).

Personally I like the minimalism of Geary but it is true that nobody would complain about any extra function such as filters, being able to program the sending of emails ...

Hi @Rock I don't understand what you meant by that Thunderbird can only be installed on a single computer. I have 3 computers, one with Windows 10 and the other 2 with Linux and in all 3 I have Thunderbird installed and configured in all with my email accounts synchronized without problem.
