Get higher screen resolution, with NVIDIA drivers in Ubuntu

This is a problem that I have with my PC, Ubuntu and the Nvidia drivers, after each installation I do of a new version of Ubuntu.

My desktop PC has an integrated graphics card Nvidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430, The problem arises after installing the Nvidia drivers, and it is that I cannot obtain a resolution greater than 1024 × 768, someone will say that it is not such a low resolution, but for me that I am used to using 1280 × 1024 if it is.

What any mortal (?) Would do would be to go directly to nvidia-settings and from there change the resolution, the problem is that it lets us change the resolution but when wanting to record, it returns this error.

Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!

We solve it in the following way, after installing the Nvidia drivers you have to run the following command:

sudo nvidia-xconfig

This command modifies the /etc/X11/xorg.conf for nvidia settings can read it and modify it, now if we can change the resolution of our screen from nvidia settings

sudo nvidia-settings

I couldn't find the post, but I know I read it in the Ubuntu-Ar forums

I thought I was the only one who had these problems with Nvidia, I never got it to work well for me and the stationery I get is very poor.
On the other hand, with Mndriva I get some nice effects of cube rotation, etc.
But my favorite and default distro is Ubuntu, so I'm running out of desktop effects.
    All the best

One question, and how do we change the refresh rate for a different one than the alternatives offered by the settings?

    I have a 9500Gt

and it does not let me change the resolution to more than 1300x I don't know how much.

the truth is fine like that.
but with the integrated motherboard, a 6100, I can get more resolution, yes
I don't know what it can be, or how to fix it
If you know how I would appreciate it very much
