In the next article we are going to take a look at Giada. This is one free and minimal audio tool with which to create electronic music aimed at DJs or live interpreters. It is free open source software for Gnu / Linux, Windows and MacOS. It is released under the open source GNU General Public License version 3+. Users can use Giada as an audio loop machine, sequencer, live sample or drum machine.

The software comes with a 32-bit multithreaded support floating point audio engine, built-in wave editor, VST and MIDI support. It also has an action recorder and editor, Piano Roll editor, BPM and rhythm synchronization, etc. As well allows use of an unlimited number of keyboard controlled channels and various playback combinations in Giada.

Being able to work with this software is quite simple. We will only have to take the channel, complete it with samples or MIDI events and start the show using this little software like loop machine, drum machine, sequencer, live sample or as plug-in / effect host.

Download and use Giada as AppImage file in Ubuntu

Giada is available as AppImage for Ubuntu users. We will be able download latest AppImage file by Giada from the previous link.

To make it work we will have to right-click on the downloaded .AppImage file and select Properties. Then we will have to go to the Permissions tab and check the option "Allow to run the file as a program”. Another option to give it the permissions will be to open a terminal (Ctrl + Alt + T) and from the folder in which we have saved the downloaded file, write the command:

sudo chmod +x Giada-0.15.4-x86_64.AppImage

For launch the program, from the same terminal we will only have to write the following command and press Enter:

./Giada-0.15.4-x86_64.AppImage
