GIMP 2.10.14 now available with corrections and some important news

GIMP 2.10.14

The most popular free image editing software has released a new version. Is about GIMP 2.10.14, and if we had not found out about its launch until today (it occurred on Sunday) it is because they have not published anything on social networks and because at the moment it is only available in its Flatpak version. The GIMP Development Team says this is a minor release that comes primarily to fix bugs, but does include some notable new features.

Among these news could be one that at the time of starting this article I have not been able to verify because I use the Snap version that has not yet been updated. I speak of one with respect to the layers that in the previous version (the v2.10.12) clipped some of the effects if they protruded from the original size of the layer. Below you have the News list that we can already see in Flatub.

GIMP 2.10.14 Highlights

  • View menu: new "Show all" option to reveal pixels outside the canvas boundary.
  • Filters: new "Clipping" option to allow changing the size of the layer when relevant.
  • Tools:
    • Select foreground: new "Grayscale" preview mode.
    • Select foreground: color / opacity selector for "Color" preview.
    • Free selection tool: improved copy and paste interaction.
    • Transform tools: new type of image transformation to transform the entire image.
  • Preferences: new setting "Allow editing in non-visible layers".
  • HEIF import / export: support color profile.
  • PDF Export: Text layers in layer groups are now exported as texts.
  • TIFF import: now asks how to process unspecified TIFF channels.

Unlike most desktop software, GIMP 2.10.14 is now available for Linux, but it is not yet for Windows and macOS because the version of the official website has not been updated yet. At the moment, in order to use the most up-to-date version we only have the option of the Flatpak package. Soon they should update the Snap package, the website and, later, the version of the official repositories of Ubuntu and other Linux distributions.
