In recent times it almost seems that this of the widgets weather it's something exclusive to Android, but the truth is that in Linux we have been enjoying them for a long time and placing them on our desks. It seems incredible, but neither Andy Rubin, nor Google invented the wheel or discovered fire.

However, it is most likely that new Ubuntu users have known this kind of desktop elements thanks to Android, but the truth is that one of the first places where we could see them was in Linux desktops. One of the widgets The most famous desktop is Gis-Weather, which has just been updated to support Ubuntu 15.04.

Gis-Weather is an easy tool to configure and with extensive customization options showing the user a detailed weather forecast. It works more or less like Conky, but you don't need to edit a script to change the graphic aspect or the information that we want it to show.

Putting Gis-Weather to work is very easy, and we can add as many locations and widgets as we want. It allows us to change the appearance, show it in all workspaces, choose and install default visual themes and it can even be further customized from the tool's preferences.

Between its main features, we can have a weather forecast for several days, a detailed forecast for today and the forecast for the next day, choose the fund that will have the widget and include a compass with the wind direction. What sources from which to extract the information we have Gismeteo.com, AccuWeather.com and OpenWeatherMap.org.

To install Gis-Weather all we have to do is resort to the usual method of include a PPA in Ubuntu repositories and install:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/apps
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gis-weather

And in this way we would already have Gis-Weather Widget installed on our computer and ready to go.

    Hello Sergio
I have configured Gis Weather on my PC with Linux Mint 18. I have used this program since it appeared thanks to your comment on Ubunlog, but when I reinstalled due to a power outage and breakdowns at my home, when I reinstalled it, it opened the program but closed it suddenly, not being able to configure it. Looking at the presentation of the program, I see that it marks #7, like the times I tried to open it , please I love this program, could you help me solve it?
    Thank you very much, Ernesto
