GNOME continues to improve the screenshot tool and libadwaita, among others

GNOME Capture Tool

Seven days ago, the project GNOME our said that one app that they were improving a lot was their screenshot tool. This tool, not yet available, will also allow us to record the screen of our equipment, which will calm the spirits a bit, especially in those who do not get along with OBS, one of the few programs that can record under Wayland. Today, more specifically yesterday, they have spoken to us of more improvements for this tool.

This week's entry on GNOME has been called "Updated Calculations," in part because they have included improvements to the GNOME calculator. They have brought it to GTK4 and libadwaita, and have also released a nightly version that can be installed from the project's flatpak repository. Below you have a list with the rest of new arrivals they mentioned today.

This week in GNOME

  • AdwLeaflet now supports mouse forward / back buttons and shortcuts, plus touch swipes for back / forward navigation. The corresponding properties have been renamed from can-swipe-back / forward to can-navigate-back / forward to reflect this.
  • GNOME Software has received support for libsoup3.
  • GNOME Shell has improved the way windows are rendered in the window selection mode of the current screenshot user interface. As in the normal overview, the shadows of the client-side windows are no longer included in the window size. Selection is now indicated by a nice rounded outline similar to GNOME 3.38. Finally, the wallpaper has been removed to reduce the confusion between the display interface and the overview.
  • The call tool, which will be used more in Phosh, displays thumbnails with photos of the contacts.
  • GLib and GJS improvements.
  • Fragments, the torrent application, has implemented the necessary bits in transmission-client and transmission-gobject to allow changing the settings of the underlying streaming daemon. The new redesigned preferences window added support for many requested settings, such as selecting your own folder for incomplete torrents. In-app notifications have been added to the new AdwToast API. Lastly, it now supports opening downloaded torrents.
  • KGX, a terminal emulator, can now switch between light and dark modes.
  • Junction 1.2.0 has been released, improving compatibility, with new functions and an improved design.
  • The sound recorder has also been brought to GTK 4 and libadwaita, something we read and will continue to read a lot.
  • Crosswords, a crossword game that has been released.

And that has been all this week in GNOME
