GNOME Games 3.22 Coming Next Week with Controller Support and PlayStation Compatibility

Gnome Games

It has always been said that Linux is not made for gaming. In fact, I have read comments making a joke that "Windows is only good for gaming", alluding to the fact that Microsoft's operating system has practically all the games in the world available, while the rest of systems have only a few. But that doesn't mean it can't be played on Linux and Gnome Games give good faith of it.

GNOME Games is a multiplatform emulator available for Linux that will show all the games in the same window or separated by the console for which they were created. The most current version is 3.20, but next week GNOME Games 3.22 is coming, a new version that will include a good number of interesting new features, such as initial support for controllers.

GNOME Games, a great game emulator for Linux

Until now, GNOME Games allowed us to navigate through our game library and auto-save games, but we had to use the keyboard to control our games. Lthe next version will include following:

  • Improved MIME types.
  • Full screen support.
  • Initial control for gamepad / controllers.
  • Pause when "Out of focus", which I imagine will be when we put another window in the foreground (or GNOME Games goes into the background).
  • It will prevent the screen saver from activating.
  • Close / return to windows.
  • Support for PlayStation.
  • Support for libretro-super core plugins.
  • Compatibility and improvements in Flatpak.
  • Error correction.

The bad thing is The next version will not be usable until after Ubuntu 16.10 is released Yakkety Yak, or not without taking more steps than we could explain. The next version of Ubuntu, which will come with support for Flatpak, will be released on October 20, so we won't have to wait long either. You will have to be patient.
