GNOME highlights this week some security patches and improvements in its extensions

Light and dark theme in GNOME

GNOME He is not used to writing weekly articles in which they tell us about dozens of new features like KDE, but there have been times when what has been mentioned has been interesting. As an example, the last week's article, in which, among other novelties, they told us about a transition when going from the light theme to the dark one and vice versa, and where the best effect is seen when using the default wallpaper.

El this week's article in GNOME it's been titled “security issues”, and I don't think it's the best way to start an article about what's new. But it seems that he has a reason: at the beginning of the article they say that «this problem takes place at the very moment when a war has broken out in Europe“, and show their support for the affected people. Having explained this, they already detail the security issues that have been fixed.

This week in GNOME

  • WebKitGTK has received two updates, 2.34.5 and 2.34.6, to fix various security flaws. One of them allowed remote code execution.
  • GNOME Builder now has templates for Adwaita, GTK4 and GTK3 for C, Rust, Python, Gjs and Vala.
  • The Multiplication Puzzle game has switched to using GTK4 and libadwaita, and is now available on Flathub.
  • Login Manager Settings (gdm-settings) has been released: a 'Settings' application for the GNOME Login Manager. You can change many settings, including the shell theme and the login screen wallpaper. It doesn't have any pre-built packages yet (except an AppImage with no dependencies and AUR packages).
  • Portfolio 0.9.13 is now available, with the ability to fully manage external devices, responsiveness when copying large files to slow devices has been improved, and many bugs have been fixed.
  • In Phosh 0.16.0 you now have fading tabs in the overview, more minor visual tweaks, and a keyboard that can shuffle buttons, among many other fixes.
  • The dark mode toggle extension is now available in GNOME 42. With this you can schedule theme switching, adds scheduling abilities to the built-in dark mode, and adds a way to set the built-in light and dark desktop background images.

And that has been all this week in GNOME
