GNOME Recipes now available for Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus

GNOME Recipes in Unity

Are you Ubuntu users and do you like cooking? Good news: Matthias Clasen of the GNOME project has announced that GNOME Recipes has reached version 1.0, which means the first official release of the recipe desktop app for Linux is now available. The application has been in development for 6 months and will arrive with GNOME 3.24.

Although it can already be installed on Ubuntu 16.10 and earlier, we cannot install GNOME Recipes on versions prior to Ubuntu 17.04 in a simple way, so, taking into account that there is only one month left before Zesty Zapus is officially launched, the best is that we have a little more patience and install GNOME Recipes together with the new operating system. In fact, we can install it in the next version of Ubuntu just by installing the package gnome-recipes, something that we can do from Ubuntu Software, other package managers such as Synaptic or directly from the terminal.

GNOME Recipes can be installed without adding repositories

GNOME Recipes

The last thing we needed [to complete a 1.0 release] was to have enough recipes to replace all the test data with actual content. And we've done it, thanks to the cooks in the GNOME community, we now have a ton of great recipes.

Among the functions available in GNOME Recipes we have:

  • Search for recipes by keywords.
  • Navigation through recipes by category, chef or country.
  • Step-by-step instructions including photos.
  • Ability to bookmark and add notes to recipes.
  • Full screen "Cook" mode.
  • Possibility of transferring the ingredients to a shopping list quickly.
  • Ingredient values change depending on the number of servings.
  • Possibility of uploading our own recipes.

How to install GNOME Recipes on Ubuntu 17.04
