GNOME says goodbye to 2021 with more improvements in its screenshot tool and Tangram, among others

Junction in GNOME

Friday of last week was Christmas Eve, also known in countries like Spain as Christmas Eve. It is a day that we all spend as a family, and it is not usually work. For that reason, although other projects like KDE did publish their weekly news article, GNOME He took it more calmly and we had to wait fifteen days to return to have information about one of the most used desktops in Linux.

So, although the initiative is called "This Week in GNOME", this time we could say that has been "These two weeks at GNOME." Among the novelties that have been presented to us, they have once again included improvements in the screenshot tool, the one in which they have been working for a long time and that will improve and simplify captures (also video) without the need to use third-party software.

This week in GNOME (December 17-30)

  • Progress has been made on the plan to bring Archives to GTK4, and it is not dependent on lilbgd. On the other hand, the compress function has been improved.
  • KGX is now called Console.
  • The capture tool has received more improvements, such as a search to take screenshots, window selection now highlights the selected window more and Shift + Ctrl + Alt + R opens the screen recording tool, among other new features. It is expected to be one of the novelties of GNOME 42.
  • Blueprint, a new markup language for creating user interfaces with GTK, now has support for syntax highlighting and completion in Builder.
  • Junction, the app launcher, has entered the GNOME circle, and Junction 1.4.0 has been released with support for desktop actions.
  • Tangram, the Telegram client, now uses GTK4 and libadwaita.
  • The Health application (Health) has seen its code rewritten for better management of data sources. There are also improvements to its interface.

And that has been all this week in GNOME
