With the permission of the blog owner I am going to make a few posts about ubuntu in this blog 🙂 In particular I will try to focus on the Ubuntu configuration, little tips and useful programs.
Today I am going to talk about 2 graphic applications that surely many will know but I am sure that some still do not know them. As for configuring ubuntu, what I have noticed is that half of the tutorials are using graphical interfaces and the other half using the console. With these 2 applications that will change and much more than half of the configurations will be able to be done graphically (I still prefer the console: P)
Ubuntu Tweak
The first one that I know of that came out with a good number of settings that saved us a lot of time. Many times one had to follow pages with tutorials in which various console commands and file editing were indicated, with Ubuntu tweak many of these things are done with a click.
The program allows you to configure many things:
- Gnome Panels
- Desktop in general
- Sessions
- General system cleaning
- Compiz, Metacity
- Nautilus
- Security
- backups
- Among many more functions.
The last of all the added functions is backups. It allows us to make backups of how our desktop is and if we have a problem or we are experimenting and something goes wrong then we can return to a previous state.
The installation of Ubuntu tweak is simple, open a console and write each of the following commands separately:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: tualatrix / ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak
ailurus
Web: http://code.google.com/p/ailurus
Ailurus is the alternative to ubuntu tweak for configure ubuntu. You have even more options. It allows:
- Install software and configure it
- Change Gnome options
- Show your hardware information
- Quickly enable some third-party repositories
- Clear cache
- Applications improvements (Nautilus, Firefox, etc)
- And more…
To install it is as easy as before:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: ailurus sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install ailurus
In summary, both applications serve to make life easier and even to optimize ubuntu or your applications ... I hope they serve you and I say goodbye until next time 🙂
