It is also noted that the support for a decoder based on the NVIDIA NVDEC hardware acceleration engine, support for new levels (6, 6.1, 6.2) and profiles (4:2:2, 4:4:4) for x264, x265 and VideoToolbox encoders and support for Intel Deep Link Hyper Encode technology, which enables the use multi-engine QSV (Quick Sync Video).

In addition, when using Intel Quick Sync Video, support for older (pre-Skylake) Intel CPUs has been removed and scaling performance has been improved on ARM systems.

On the other hand, we can also find that added Bwdif filter for deinterlacing, as well as that the performance of the filters in multicore systems has been improved: Comb Detect, Decomb, Denoise and NLMeans. Added support for more than 8 bits per color channel and 4:2:2/4:4:4 color subsampling in Detelecine, Comb Detect, Decomb, Grayscale, Denoise NLMeans/HQDN3D, Chroma Smooth, and Sharpen UnSharp/ LapSharp.

  • Added “–cpu” option to enable compilation for certain CPU architectures.
  • Added “–lto” option to enable optimization at linking stage.
  • Added support for compiling on the OpenBSD platform. Improved parity with the Mac and Windows GUIs
  • Revised encoding presets for Web.
  • Removed presets for the VP8 format, whose encoder is marked as deprecated. Theora encoder has been deprecated.

How to install Handbrake on Ubuntu and derivatives from PPA?
