How to install Manokwari desktop environment on Ubuntu and derivatives?

Manokwari on Ubuntu and derivatives

I know that very few of the readers of this blog you may have heard about the BlankOn Linux distribution which is basically a Linux distribution based on Debian, in addition to it includes a desktop environment which is a fork of Gnome.

This desktop environment It is called Manokwari, which I think is an excellent environment, very well designed and with options that appear to me quite a bit in the Deepin environment.

manokwari takes many of the Gnome Shell technologies and organizes them into a clean user interface. While it is not the first desktop environment to reorganize Gnome, but it is certainly one worth trying.

As I mentioned well, this is an environment that belongs to BlankOn, it is based on Debian and therefore it is possible to install it in distributions that are based or derived from Debian.

In this case, for us Ubuntu users have not made things even easier since we can make use of a repository with which we can install in a simple way and without complications or dependency problems in our system.

Although at the moment the only problem is that this PPA is not ready for Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and future versions. At the moment only 16.04 have support.

But what happens for those who are users of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and derivatives of it?

All right we can directly download the packages from the repository of this, we will use the last ones that were made for Ubuntu 17.04.

Before moving on to the installation method we must take a preventive step. We must bakcup our sources.list

To do this we must open a terminal with Ctrl + Alt + T and execute the following command in it:

sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources.list.bak

If you prefer, you can change to the path to save your backup, this is your choice.
