How to install Mesa 13 on Ubuntu 16.04.2

After a series of delays, Ubuntu 16.04.02 LTS reaches our hands but with the set of Mesa 3D graphics libraries outdated. Many users expected that the latest update would already include the Mesa 13 library in its repository, in line with the current kernel (Linux 4.8) and the graphical functions of Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak), but it has not been like that.

Canonical's initial idea was to release Ubuntu 16.04.2 with the version 16.10 stack, which includes the library Table 12.0.6 and the next version 16.04.3 with the Ubuntu 17.04 stack, that is, Mesa 13.0.

Maintaining a logical line of production has been Canonical's main reason for including the Mesa 12.0.x library in the latest Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS update. This will be the latest series update since the life cycle has come to an end. Then it will be mandatory to migrate to the new version of the Mesa 13.0 library.

Mesa drivers are critics for all players who own a Graphics platform based on AMD Radeon or Intel. If you want to squeeze the full potential of your hardware, and especially of the latest cards, you must have the latest update of these libraries. If you have updated to Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, the next step is to get the latest version of Mesa 13.0.3 3D.

Developer Paulo Miguel Dias has developed a stable PPA repository for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) and Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) with Mesa 13.0.3 packages, compiled with LLVM 3.9.1. To include them in your personal repository and update the equipment, you must enter the following commands from the terminal console:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:paulo-miguel-dias/pkppa -y
sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade

This repository will update your graphics drivers and as soon as the new ones are released Table 17.0 expected for this week, will be included automatically.

So for NVIDIA users with proprietary drivers it is not necessary to update, or is it?
