How to install the latest version of the KDE desktop, Plasma 5.13 in our Ubuntu

A few days ago The latest version of the KDE desktop has been released, this is Plasma 5.13, a version that promises a lot thanks to its novelties and that although it is not yet in the versions and flavors of Ubuntu, it is true that we can have it on our computer without losing Ubuntu or having to compile the desktop source code by hand.

Plasma 5.13 is one of the most interesting latest versions of Plasma. Not because it is the latest version but because it offers elements that the Community and users value positively. One of the new features of Plasma 5.13 is its optimization that makes Plasma 5.13 one of the lightest and lightest desktops out there for many computers. Yes, it may seem incredible, but currently Plasma 5.12 consumes almost the same resources as LXDE and Xfce, so it seems that Plasma 5.13 surpasses that barrier.

The design and desktop artwork has also been redesigned, being a more minimalist and beautiful desktop, incorporating the blur interface, an interface that adds transparency effects without actually being one. An interesting appearance that we will see very well reflected in Discover, the Plasma software manager that has received a new design, being more optimal for software installation.

This new version of Plasma is now available to users of the KDE Neon distribution, that distribution which is based on Ubuntu LTS with KDE as the default desktop. Obviously to have it we have to open a terminal and write the following:

sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y

And this will make our KDE Neon have Plasma 5.13 working properly. If we don't have KDE Neon, but if Ubuntu or Kubuntu, we can do it through the use of backports repositories. To do this, a terminal is opened and we write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y

But we have to point out that for the moment Plasma 5.13 is not in these repositories although it will be for the next few hours. Unfortunately it is the only way to have Plasma 5.13 so we have to wait a few hours to have this new version of Plasma. In any case it seems that the new version of Plasma it will make other desks work much harder on your developments, But What desk do you use?

What you publish is incorrect «currently Plasma 5.12 consumes almost the same resources as LXDE and Xfce for ...
Currently KDE consumes less than XFCE and LXDE, Kubuntu as it comes 620 mb in ram, eliminating akonadi and other 340 mb trinkets

I recommend the new "minimal installation of Kubuntu", it leaves the system with a minimum use of ram (256 mb)

If I install Ubuntu 18.04 LTS I have five years of technical support
If I install Kubuntu it is only three years
But if I install Ubuntu and then put KDE on it, how many years of support do I have?
    Thank you
