How to recover Linux grub in Ubuntu 12.04

The other day, installing Ubuntu 12.04 on my sister's laptop, a thing happened to me that had never happened to me before, after finishing the installation shared with Windows 7 and restart the computer, it restarted without showing the linux grub and going directly into Windows 7.

So to fix it I had to install grub directly from the terminal and enable it to show us the operating systems installed on the computer and thus be able to select from it, with which we want start the system.

This tutorial will also help us after an installation of Windows, recover linux grub, since when installing Windows We will lose it again.

The process is quite simple to carry out, we will only have to restart our computer with the distro of Ubuntu 12.04 Live CD or USB, and from there, access a new terminal and do the following:

Recovering the Linux grub

The first of all will be from our Live distro, open a terminal window and install linux grub:

  • sudo aptitude install grub

Then we will update the Linux grub with the following command line:

  • sudo update-grub

With this you should already have the Start System from your computer through the linux grub, if the restart continues the same thing, do the same steps but changing the command grub By the grub2.
