How to update to Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine NOW from the terminal

Ubuntu 19.10 now available to update

The launch is not official yet, so everyone does what they see fit. Yesterday we said on Twitter that they would release the ISO images before making the new version official, but it was not. What does seem to be available was the new version to update from the terminal, something that we will explain later. As you can see in the screenshot that heads this article, my computer is up to date, but "Kubuntu 19.10 is now available". Ubuntu 19.10 can also be installed right now.

Before indicating the steps to follow to be able to update to Ubuntu 19.10 Eoan Ermine right now, I would like to say that I I would recommend waiting a little longer. Canonical is unlikely to make any more last minute changes considering what time it is, but never say never. On the other hand, I personally prefer to do installations from scratch, which is why I don't like to upgrade.

Upgrade to Ubuntu 19.10 with update-manager

The tool that we are going to use to update to Ubuntu 19.10 is update-manager. In operating systems like Kubuntu it is not installed by default, so we must first install it. These will be the steps to follow:

  1. We have to be on Ubuntu 19.04, so we check that this is the version we are using or we update from a previous version (I would not recommend it, among other things, due to wasted time).
  2. We update all packages with the following command:
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
  1. We install the tool with this command:
sudo apt install update-manager
  1. We restart the operating system.
  2. Once we go back in, we open the terminal and write this command:
update-manager -c -d
  1. We accept the message that appears.
  2. Finally, we follow the instructions that appear on the screen. When we restart we will enter Eoan Ermine.

Now that you know how to update to Eoan Ermine, will you wait for the release to be official or will you update without waiting another minute?

I was looking for how to update and all the methods told me that my system was already updated, although I was still with Ubuntu 19.04 still ... but when I ran update-manager with «-c -d» included I could update ... Thank you very much for the info, very good post !

Hello. Thanks to your tutorial I reinstalled Ubuntu and it was very good. I did it in version 19.04 and it suggested me to upgrade to 19.10 which I did. Now it gives me the following error: http://uy.archive.ubuntu/ubuntu disc release does not have a publication file I am a teacher and I do not understand anything! They can help me get it right. I don't know if the announcement you give me is serious or not.
    Thank you!
