How to use the terminal to download videos

At next video tutorial I'm going to teach you a very simple way to download videos format flash to view them directly on the computer without the need for a network connection.

To achieve this, we will do it with the command Clive which is one of the easiest to use and comfortable for users with less knowledge in the Ubuntu operating system and the much dreaded terminal.

For the example I have selected one of the video tutorials from the You Tube channel Ubunlog, which we will download from the terminal itself and host it on our computer for a later viewing or private collection.

The first thing we have to do is install Clive from own terminal, so we open a new terminal window with the key combination CTRL + ALT + T and we will click the following line:

  • sudo apt-get install clive

We confirm the installation by clicking the S and when it finishes we will be able to use the command to download our videos directly to the computer.

To download any compatible video from a website we will only have to use the command Clive more the video url in question.

  • clive video url

The screenshot above corresponds to the video selected from the channel of Ubunlog which we are using as a practical example.

If we want to know the formats or qualities available to download the video, we will do it by checking with the following command:

  • clive -F URL of the video

With the command above we will have the full report of the available formats, if we look at the image below, we will have it available in flash but several qualities to select:

And by default what format and low quality?

    1.    Francisco Ruiz said

By default it downloads it in the original format and quality in which the video was uploaded to the channel.
It is best to use the -F command and choose the available format and quality. Greetings.
