HPLIP already has support for Ubuntu 15.10

HPLIP

A few hours ago the latest version of the HPLIP driver was released, a driver created by HP and its community so that HP printers can work correctly on Gnu / Linux distributions. Although the CUPS that Ubuntu has is a fairly efficient manager of any printer, the truth is that if we use an HP printer, scanner or fax, it is best to use this driver.

As a novelty, the new HPLIP 3.15.11 has support for the latest versions of Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSUSE, in this case we mean that supports Ubuntu 15.10, Fedora 23 and OpenSUSE 42.1. In addition, as in previous versions, HPLIP increases the list of printers, scanners and fax that are compatible with the driver, in total we can talk about more than 40 products that are included. Numerous bugs and errors that have been detected are also improved, something that will improve the operation of the driver and program in our Ubuntu, whether or not it is Ubuntu Wily Werewolf.

For the moment, the new version is not available in the Ubuntu repositories, something that will be solved in a few days, but it is not an obstacle to have this version in Ubuntu. To install HPLIP what we have to do is go to this website and download the driver or .run file. Once we have downloaded the .run file, we open a terminal in the Download folder and write the following:

sudo su

./hplip-3.15.11.run

After this the installation program will start with which we only have to read the instructions and press the Y key or the N key depending on the answer.

The installation is simple and if you have already done an installation of the HPLIP driver, the truth is that nothing changes at all. Even so, it is a method that we recommend because it is the best option to have updated drivers and in this case it will improve the performance of the printer. So don't forget the update.
