ikona, a new KDE application for creating application icons

Ikona

In the Linux world, one of the most popular developer groups is the KDE team. They offer us very special software, such as the Plasma graphic environment or applications such as Kdenlive. This article is about a new "KDE Application": icons has reached version 1.0 and they have decided to present it to the community. What does it do? As we can guess from its name, it is related to the icons, specifically those that will be used in other applications.

The first thing that catches your attention, quite the opposite for any user of KDE software, is how they write the name: if it were others who developed this app, it would probably be called "icon", but KDE always puts the K, which it remains as "ikona." Having explained this, Jan Pontaoski has presented us with a software that is initially intended for developers, so that they can create icons that look good in any situation and size.

ikona will make it easy for developers to create icons

Regarding other specifications or features, this is the first KDE application to be released and it is mostly programmed in Rust. Regarding its operation, Pontaoski explains the following:

Ikona opens to a fairly straightforward screen, offering users two options: the color palette or the icon view. Before we get to the Ikona meat, let's look at the color palette. Ikona's color palette is pretty simple: it displays a bunch of colors and clicking on them copies the hex code. The color palette was designed to offer icon designers a wide variety of vibrant colors to match the Breeze style.

As we have explained, it is a app specially designed for developers. Interested users should read Jan's original article (in English) which you can access from this link. It explains more details that may be useful to the target of this app. Are you one of them?
