- It is a free alternative to Stormcloud
- The latest version is installed by adding an extra repository
Weather Indicator is an indicator for the Ubuntu panel that allows us to be aware of the conditions of the weather from our city, from the neighboring city or from a city located on the other side of the world. Could be considered a free alternative to Stormcloud which, although less showy, fulfills its objective perfectly.
Once installed, the indicator allows us to be aware of the temperature, moisture and wind speed / direction of our city, also offering us estimates of the sunrise and sunset times; all of this both for the current day and for the next four days.
Although Indicator Weather is available in the official Ubuntu repositories —at least for 12.10 and 12.04— to install the latest stable version, as well as perform the installation in Ubuntu 13.04 y 13.10, we must add the following repository:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:weather-indicator-team/ppa
Then it simply remains to refresh the local information:
sudo apt-get update
And install the indicator package:
sudo apt-get install indicator-weather
As a matter of fact, the new version of Indicator Weather fixes some bugs that make the indicator a much more robust tool compared to previous versions.
