With the launch of Cinnamon 3.0 and the review of its main novelties, it is time to get down to work and install this desktop on our Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. Few presentations are necessary for one of the best known and most precious desktops, so we will not dwell on these details this time.

How to Live Aligned with we already told you in his day, the amount of improvements that this new edition brings is quite modest versus past versions. However, they are enough to make a brief review of all of them and assess whether it is worth the update to this new edition.

Cinnamon is a very popular desktop today and is available for a large number of Linux distributions. Cinnamon 3.0 Installation

And now, without any further distractions, let's get started with installing Cinnamon 3.0 on our system. As you know, your parcel is available through the official PPA repository, so to add it to our Ubuntu 16.04 LTS system we will only need to include the community PPA in our repository.

Xenial users should know that the packages come without guarantees of stability on our equipment, so when installing them we are aware of the risk that this entails and that data loss can always occur. For this reason and although no user has reported that there are incompatibilities that cause problems in the equipment, always back up your most important data when you install packages that suppose big changes in your system.

Having given the appropriate warnings, we indicate the code that you must enter through the console to add stable repository from Cinnamon PPA to your system:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:embrosyn/cinnamon

Then download the necessary packages using the following command:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install cinnamon cinnamon-core

When the download is complete and all dependencies are complete, we will have to close the session and / or restart our computer in order to start with the new Cinnamon desktop. To do this, on the Unity welcome screen (where we can also view the open sessions of the system), we will select "Cinnamon" from the list of available options. We will then proceed to enter our user data and password as usual and from here on we will let the beauty of this desk end up captivating us.

Uninstalling Cinnamon 3.0 from the computer

Not convinced by Cinnamon 3.0? Have you encountered a problem with your computer and want to get rid of this desktop? Follow this step and you will remove all traces from this desktop on your computer.

To roll back Cinnamon 3,0 installation on your system you will have to re-execute an instruction through the console, specifically this one:

sudo ppa-purge ppa:embrosyn/cinnamon

Once executed, the packages will have been eliminated and any dependencies that may exist cleaned.

Have you tried the new desktop version of Cinnamon 3.0? What impressions has it given you? Is it stable on your system? Leave us your comments if you have installed it on your computers.

Greetings, I have a problem with Cinnamon, whenever I try to install it in Ubuntu, everything installs and works fine, except one thing, the shutdown button (shutdown system, suspend, hibernate) does not work, I have to log out in order to shut down the system , I just installed it on Ubuntu 16.04 and it keeps happening

It only shows one box: Turn off this system now?
    Cancel

When you install the PPA it indicates (among other things): «Shutdown dialog not working as expected? See the following Ask Ubuntu question: http://askubuntu.com/questions/691813/cinnamon-desktop-clicking-menu-shutdown-presents-no-real-button-options and see if it solves the problem for you. »

Have you already tried what is indicated?

Hi, I loved cinnamon! Although I have had to uninstall because when it blocks due to inactivity in the (precious) login that it has, it does not unblock me, I need to leave the session with the consequent loss of the processes that were running.

Excuse me friend, but your repository to eliminate Cinnamon does not work for me ... Well, it tells me that ppa-purge does not exist, if anyone knows why I would appreciate it if you could help me. First of all, Thanks.
