Deepin OS is a Linux distribution of Chinese origin, Previously it was based on Ubuntu, but due to the constant changes of constant updates, a base system change was made taking Debian as a base.
While something What most characterizes Deepin is the simplicity of its use, as well as its desktop environment that has been liked by those people who have tried the system or have simply seen the environment.
We can have the Deepin desktop with the use of a repository, which a developer is responsible for maintaining it unofficially, so we can add it with the following commands.
Note: This repository cannot be used in versions prior to Ubuntu 17.04 and its derivatives, so at the moment it cannot be used in Linux Mint, it is only available for versions 17.04, 17.10 and 18.04.
We must open a terminal and execute the following command:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:leaeasy/dde
Now we just update the repositories.
sudo apt-get update
And finally we install the Deepin desktop environment in our system with:
sudo apt-get install dde
During the installation process depending on the environment you are currently using, quite possibly it will ask you to decide if you want to continue using your current login manager or use Deepin's one.
When the installation process is finished, we will proceed to restart our system For the changes made to be made, we only have to indicate in our login manager that we want to run our session with the Deepin environment.
Finally, you can use Synaptic to see the packages that the repository has and which you can add, for example, the Deepin file manager as well as Deepin Software Center, Deepin Music Player, Deepin Games, among others.
From now on it is up to you to personalize your new environment with themes, icons or wallpapers.
I have followed your procedure, but I don't know why deppin-music when playing music tells me that the file does not exist, (obviously it has opened the program using the file so it does exist and it even sounds with Rhythmbox) I use version 17.10 of Ubuntu
Hi Luis, Thank you very much for the contribution. I only have one doubt, what icon pack is the one that appears in the images?
It is appreciated in advance.
E: The dde package could not be located
PS: It is what appears to me, and I don't know how to correct it. Yes, I have followed all the steps.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa: leaeasy / dde
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install dde
Dear I want to uninstall the deepin desktop and have the previous desktop in ubuntu 18.04,.
