How to install Facebook Messenger on Ubuntu

Facebook Messenger in Ubuntu

The most used messaging app on the planet is WhatsApp, a company now owned by Facebook. The second most used messaging service is the Messenger 's own Facebook, but can we have a desktop application in Ubuntu? The answer is yes, and not just one. In this article we will talk about two of these applications, the best of all (for me) being the second option.

The first of the options is available on the page messengerfordesktop.com, from where we can download a Facebook Messenger client for free for Linux, Mac and Windows. In the case of Linux, which is what most interests us editors and readers of Ubunlog, we just have to download the .deb package of the application, open it with our installer (such as GDebi or Gnome Software) and install it.

Franz is also a great option to chat with Facebook Messenger

But for me there is a problem since Microsoft stopped offering its Messenger (MSN) and opted for Skype or Whatsapp. Since then, users have not agreed on which is the best messaging service, some thinking that it is Telegram, others WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger ... In the end, each one uses a different one. The solution to this problem has a name: Franz.

With French, application we already wrote about an article Last week, we will be able to chat not only with Facebook Messenger, but we will also be able to chat from WhatsApp web, Telegram, Slack and up to 23 messaging services, including Twitter (Tweetdeck to be more exact). As we wrote in his day, Franz offers the web versions of many of these applications, which means that it has certain limitations that are not in the official versions. But if, like me, you are not demanding users of many of these services, it will undoubtedly be worth having it installed.

In last week's article we explained what services we can access from Franz, as well as how to install it and make it work.
