The first thing I would like to say is that personally I am not in favor of modifying the image of Elementary OS, one of the distributions with one of the most beautiful environments that I have used. But hey, I know that not everyone thinks the same as me, so I get on with it. As you may have guessed from the introduction, this post is about modify Elementary OS 0.4 image Loki, for which we will install GTK themes.
The best thing about this method is that we will do it directly from our favorite web browser. As an image is worth a thousand words, below you have a video in which you can see how install GTK themes in Elementary OS 0.4, the latest version of this distribution that, as many of you will know, has come under the name of Loki. In case you don't have enough with the video, we will also write the steps to follow in words.
Installing GTK themes on Elementary OS from the browser
- The first thing we have to do is click on this link.
- Once on the page, we click on the «Files» tab which at the time of writing these lines says «Files (6)».
- From the options they offer us, we choose the first .deb package, that is, the third option.
- We install the downloaded .deb package. In the source they recommend using the command sudo dpkg -i xdgurl_xxx.deb (substituting "xxx" for the package we have downloaded) but, being a .deb package, I recommend double-clicking on it and having our installer do the work for us.
- Once installed, we have to go to the web gnome-look.org.
- In this web page, we look for a topic that we like.
- Within the description of the topic, we click on «Files».
- Finally, we click on the blue button in which we can read «Install» and we wait to see the message that it has been installed successfully
We would already have the GTK theme installed, which was what we were interested in. If we want to use it, logically the last step will be to go to the Elementary OS settings and select the new topic. What do you think of this method to install themes from the browser?
