How to install Hearthstone on Ubuntu 17.10

Hearthstone

Hearthstone is one of the most famous and popular online card games out there today. Its relationship with World of Warcarft has made many users want to play and play this game. A game that is available for Windows, but not for Ubuntu, at least officially.

We are going to tell you how to configure our Ubuntu 17.10 so that we can install not only Hearthstone but also Battle.net and we can play these games like that.

Wine Preparation

There is no official Battle.net application for Ubuntu yet, so we have to use Wine for its operation. In this case we have to use Wine staging. To do this we open a terminal and write the following:

cd ~ / Descargas
wget -nc https: // repos.wine-staging.com / wine / Release.key
sudo apt-key add Release.key
sudo apt-add-repository 'https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/'
sudo apt update
sudo apt install --install-recomienda winehq-staging

After this, we write "winecfg" in the terminal, which will open a configuration window. This configuration window is important because without it, the emulator will not work correctly. We go to the Staging tab and enable the boxes that activate CSMT, VAAPI and EAX. Then we go to the tab Libraries. There we will look for the bookstores d3d11 and locationapi which we will then add by pressing the Add button. After this, click Apply and then Ok to close the configuration window.

Now we need to install Winetricks for Battle.net to work properly. So, we open a terminal (if we had closed it) and type the following to install Winetricks:

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Winetricks/winetricks/master/src/winetricks
chmod + x winetricks

And now that it's installed, we run winetricks:

./winetricks

On the screen that appears, we mark «Use default Wine prefix«, Press Ok and a window will appear with a list of DLL libraries, we look for the ie8 library and install it. Once it is installed, we press the cancel button to return to the previous level. We select Fonts and press Ok, which will bring up the Fonts window. There we search and install «corefonts«. When it is installed, press the cancel button until we exit Winetricks.

Battle.net and Hearthstone Installation

Now we just have to install Battle.net and Hearthstone, easier and easier processes.

The Battle.net installation package is available from the official Blizzard website. This gives us a package in .exe format with the Battle.net installer. We execute it and after that the Battle.net installation wizard will appear, a simple process that is the typical installer we just have to press the «Next» button.

When the installation is finished, we launch the Battle.Net application. We do this through the icon that appears in our Menu, if not we find it, we can locate it in "~ / .wine / drive_c / Program Files (x86) /Battle.net/Battle.net Launcher.exe". When we run Battle.net, all the applications that we can install will appear. Among them Hearthstone. So we select it and press the install button. After a while, the button will change the Install text to the Play text.

With this we can now play Hearthstone on our Ubuntu 17.10. As you can see, it is a long but simple process and it will guarantee hours and hours of fun. Do not you think?

I do not know if I have failed in a step, but the point is that when I want to install it, it jumps to me that I do not meet the minimum system specifications by not having windows 7 (and apparently being with Windows XP). Is there any way to change the simulated distribution?

Yes, look for Configure Wine in your applications and run it, when it opens you will see that underneath it says 'version to imitate: windows xp', change it to the one you want, give it to accept and that's it

Hello, following the manual, it gives me an error when I run hearthstone and it cannot find the LocationAPI, I added it manually, as it was not in the list. I have perfectly installed battle.net and even hearthstone has installed me, but when starting up, I see this error and I don't know how to solve it. Thanks in advance and great contribution 🙂

Hello, I followed the guide and tried with win 7 and win 10 for emulation, but it keeps giving me the message that I am not using an updated version of win or higher than XP, it does not allow to install the game, I have been looking for it, if it is missing some dependency or library, but nothing yet.

Hello, I have followed all the steps but when I finish installing the battle.net application it throws me an error that some dll is missing, it does not clarify which one. And it throws me the same error when I want to open the installation. Has it happened to someone else? is there any other dll to install?

    Thank you very much.
