How to install the latest Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu

ubuntu-nvidia

The latest update of the Nvidia graphics drivers has certainly been difficult for Ubuntu users. There are a number of ways to get the latest drivers for these cards, either through the official installer that exists for Linux (which does not work correctly on many occasions), through a third-party PPA repository (which given the frequency of updating their packages, many of them are unstable on the system ) or through official PPA repository of GPU drivers.

Thanks to this repository, it is possible to get hold of Nvidia's proprietary and stable drivers, without the need to update any other library or package on our system. They are official, stable and easy to apply controllers thanks to this guide that we show you about how to install the latest Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu.

Do not confuse the name because in this case PPA only refers to Nvidia card drivers, official and stable. You will not find other cards that are not from that company or versions that have not been properly tested. This does not mean that they can be free of bugs, because like all software from this type of repositories, has been tested but not verified in each of the situations. If you do not know how to recover your system from a failed video driver update, we do not advise you to follow this tutorial.

The set of packages that this PPA provides it is valid for Ubuntu versions 12.04, 14.04, 15.10, 16.04 and 16.10 and it takes the latest drivers used by Nvidia in its version 367.27 for Ubuntu 16.04 and 16.10, while it uses the previous version for Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04 and 15.10.

To install the latest drivers from Nvidia on your Ubuntu system, follow these simple steps:

  • Add the PPA repository to the system:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
sudo apt update
  • Install and activate the drivers:

From the System settings or from the Dash, riding a Software & Updates, select the tab Additional Drivers and the driver you want to use, applying the changes later.

It is also possible to installation from the console from the system, previously checking which is the latest version of the drivers you want to download. With a apt-cache search nvidia o apt search nvidia you can see available versions, and later with sudo apt install nvidia -VERSION, install them.

I have seen that the new Nvidia drivers have support for KMS, allowing Plymouth to function properly every time the system boots, but I do not know how this functionality is activated. Could you please post a guide on how to do it.

So far I had fixed it by modifying grub (/ etc / default / grub), but this method only allows maximum resolutions of 1280 × 1024.

sorry, but your entry is traced from this site http://www.webupd8.org/2016/06/how-to-install-latest-nvidia-drivers-in.html

the problem is not based on the work of others, but rather that you go overboard in not citing sources, which makes you a thief and a person who, instead of contributing, destroys the GNU / Linux world.

They will probably censor my comment, but just so you know that we are not stupid and we know that they have been stealing from elsewhere.

The other day I commented on it in another news item. I said that I would not criticize the fact that they take articles from other pages in English and translate them, that it takes time. But that it did not seem right to me that they did not cite the original author. I also said that they even used the same photos as in the original article. And they didn't mention anything about the source of the photos.

What?! This is incredible. I have gone to the other news to put the link here for you to see my comment, and it turns out that THE COMMENT HAS BEEN DELETED ME !. You have deleted my comment for telling a truth like a cathedral and it was that the original article was from another page! I find it outrageous.

This was the news where I put the comment criticizing this action of plagiarizing the articles and not naming the source:

      http://ubunlog.com/sacale-los-colores-numix-oomox/

Only one comment appears. Mine appeared after that, and you can see that it has not liked you who knows who and they have deleted it.

Well, you know that I do not intend to enter this page ever again. I wrote a comment without disrespecting anyone. I was educated and telling the truth, which was neither more nor less than that article was translated from another original that was in English. And I also mentioned that if you did that, that you put the original source. I also said that in the philosophy of GNU / Linux it is to use something for free and modify it, etc., but that it is also in that philosophy to recognize the original author by putting the source.

From now on I will not visit this site again. You do not accept criticism about something that is true, and above all you delete the comments that you do not like or that can put you in evidence. What a dictatorship!

I plan to contact the original author of the articles you are plagiarizing. At least so you know. Or at least for the author to get in touch and tell you something about it. Let's see if that's how your face falls with shame. Although it gives me that you would care little if the author himself took the colors out of you.

Rough copy of the article http://www.webupd8.org/2016/06/how-to-install-latest-nvidia-drivers-in.html without even adding something of your own and worst, without citing sources ... at least have the decency to cite the source from where you got the info ... bad for you !!!

hahaha Those detractors what always has to be. The point is to share: Citing the source is bullshit, stealing is bullshit also because he is not stealing.
Why not say who shared the theme / movie / file that you just downloaded from the torrent. Right what not? Well shut up!

It costs nothing to cite the source. It is true what WindTux says, I just read the previous one and five minutes later I see this one. I would not like them to do it to me. These things give a job.

Me, the utility of showing the source is less and less clear to me, because many of them are not even from the original source. It seems absurd to put the source. And I'm up to the balls of people who ruthlessly assault those who do not publish the source. It's stupid ..

Sure, because you don't beat the water, that's why. If you bother to search for information about something for several days on some occasions, have to write it, take screenshots, etc., etc., and then you upload it to your own page and have someone come to copy your work, then yes, no you were going to be "fed up" with those people who criticize the failure to quote the original author.

In addition, in this specific case, it could even be illegal. Because it is one thing to have a page without more and to copy content left and right, which is despicable; but another is wanting to earn money at your expense. Because this blog has since if you want to advertise that you get in touch. That is, they may even seek to charge someone to advertise, when not even they create content and it is from other people. And in such a case, it would be illegal. Because the author of the original news puts it and does not care if others share it, as long as they recognize his work, something that is not done here, but what he will not care is that he puts something for free, and that another arrives, it copy and on top earn money by charging for advertising thanks to your content.

So be careful, because here maybe some kind of crime is being committed by copying articles from other sites.

        True.

It is not the first time that it seems to me, but I had never dared to say it because you always have the doubt of who has written it before…. But, since the ban has been opened, and I agree that the source is often being ignored here, I join in the criticism.

It costs nothing to cite the source, and it is not understood that this blog (and it is not the only one) is not done.

My God what a despicable blog. As you do not cite the font that you have used, I already put it.
