A few days ago version 2.80 of Transmission, One BitTorrent clients most popular in Linux and Mac OS. Transmission 2.80 has a large number of improvements for all the platforms on which it is available, several others for its Qt client and some others for its GTK + client.

Improvements

Among some of the changes present in Transmission 2.80 are:

  • Support for renaming folders and files
  • Reading files much faster
  • Better use of the file system cache
  • Various improvements in the section on the speed of the program
  • Support to show available free disk space when adding a new torrent

At Qt client The reception of information has also been improved from the Trackers, options have been added to play a sound at the end of a download and start the program in the notification area, and the error that did not allow to close session or hibernate the system has been fixed. At GTK + client The trackers filtering interface has been simplified, preferences text have been synchronized with keyboard shortcuts, and some glitches and bugs have been fixed.

Installation

To install Transmission 2.80 on Ubuntu 13.04 y Ubuntu 12.10 you just have to add the following repository:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:transmissionbt/ppa

Then you have to refresh the local information:

sudo apt-get update

And install the packages:

sudo apt-get install transmission transmission-common transmission-gtk
