It may seem to many that we are talking about old news since there is very little left for Ubuntu 15.04 to come out, but it is reality. Intel has released a new version of Intel Linux Graphics Drivers, this time with support for Ubuntu 14.10, the latest stable version of Ubuntu.
With this release, Intel Linux Graphics Drivers makes Ubuntu 14.04 obsolete although there will continue to be support for these versions of Ubuntu. This new version of Intel drivers not only incorporates support for new Intel hardware but also incorporates several new features and the correction of numerous bugs and errors that existed in the drivers.
Among the novelties is the adaptation for the future Skylake processors that will be seen soon, the correction of the lighting and the ignition sequencer and an improvement in the handling of VBlank.
Intel Linux Graphics Drivers 1.08 supports Ubuntu 14.10 and Fedroa 21
But more interesting seems to me the stop in the development of the drivers in the XOrg server. Apparently Intel will stop developing for Xorg in post of other graphics servers that seem to take control of the distributions. This does not mean that Xorg will be discontinued, something that will continue to exist but development will focus on other servers.
On the other hand, many will think that Intel will release a version of Intel Linux Graphics Drivers for Mir, but since the latest version includes support not only for Ubuntu but for Fedora and other distributions, you will most likely Intel leans on Wayland, although there is nothing certain or certain in this.
The only sure thing is that if you currently have some type of graphics hardware that Intel uses, it is best to update the system or simply install Intel Linux Graphics Drivers for optimal operation of our operating system.
Thanks at this time for Ubuntu 14.04.2 it says that the distribution is not supported 🙁 Will we have to wait or do we have to download the deb package from the web?
regards
the same happens to me
As in previous versions, the software will stop supporting old versions although deb packages will be released. In your case, I recommend that you use the old version or simply reinstall the deb of the old package. Anyway, are you using the basic driver right?
