KDE Applications 19.04 might not make it to Kubuntu 19.04

Kubuntu 19.04 without KDE Applications 19.04

Disco Dingo was launched on April 18, which are the latest versions of Ubuntu and all its official flavors. Among these official flavors we have Kubuntu 19.04, the operating system that a server is using. On the same April 18, KDE Community announced the launch de KDE Applications 19.04, but something seemed off. And, even less, seeing that two weeks after the launch of Kubuntu 19.04 they still had not reached the official repositories.

And it is that yes, KDE Applications 19.04 is already available, and as a sample we have, for example, Kdenlive 19.04 in its version Flatpak, But Kubuntu 19.04 still stuck on KDE Applications 18.12.3, a version that was released in March 2019. Already a little worried, this week I asked the KDE Community what was happening, thinking that they were not going to answer me, but they have answered me, telling me that KDE Applications 19.04 did not reach time before the Freeze Feature, that is, when Canonical stopped accepting changes they were not yet available.

KDE Applications 19.04 will be available on Kubuntu 19.10

What they have told me is that Kubuntu does not include new versions of applications after its launch, only accepting changes to fix bugs. Everything will be ready for Kubuntu 19.10, the version that will be released in October, but there is something that is not completely clear: Will there not be a new version of the application package by that time? Are we from now on after what we should in this regard? The only thing that seems clear is that KDE Applications 19.04 will not be on Disco Dingo.

Those who want to use any application from KDE Applications v19.04 should download its source code y perform manual installation. Personally, I would have liked to be able to use some of the new functions of applications like Spectacle, but everything seems to indicate that I will still have to wait six more months, since I am not in favor of using applications playing with binaries. Hopefully, KDE Applications 19.10 is released in October with even more enhancements, and this time they are on time. We will have to wait for news.

UPDATED: Yes they will add the new versions to their Backports repository in the same way as they do with the new Plasma versions. They will wait for an update, probably this month.

It has arrived, it is available at least on snap, and some apps on flatpak as well.
