KDE Frameworks 5.66 released, also available now in Discover with over 100 changes

Framework 5.66

In the last 7 days, KDE has updated its three main software groups. Last Tuesday released Plasma 5.17.5, two days later they launched the KDE Applications 19.12.1 and today they have done the same with KDE Framework 5.66. As KDE Community explains, Frameworks are more than 70 plugin libraries for Qt that provide a wide variety of functions that basically make all KDE software work as well as possible.

As we read in the release note, which in the case of Frameworks also includes the list of new features, Frameworks 5.66 has arrived with a total of 124 changes distributed in software such as Baloo, KConfig, KContacts or KIO. Below we will provide a few of the news that have arrived in this new version, three from one of those unofficial lists with a more pleasant and simple language. If you want to see the official and complete list, you will have to access the previous link (in English).

Highlights of Frameworks 5.66

  • Audacity project files now include nice Breeze icons.
  • The folder properties dialog now offers an option to browse the folder in Filelight if it is installed.
  • In Wayland, the widget explorer can now be used.

Framework 5.66 is available since last January 11 but, since the changes it introduces are not as flashy, KDE Community does not promote or advertise them as much as Plasma or KDE Applications, so we have not heard of their official release until today. And we found out because it is already available in Discover, as long as we are using the KDE Backports repository or an operating system with special repositories like KDE neon. The next version will already be a KDE Frameworks 5.67 that is scheduled for February 8 and will pave the way for KDE Applications 19.12.2 and Plasma 5.18, the graphical environment that will include Kubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa.
