KDE Frameworks 6.1 has already been released

KDE frameworks are the basis of the KDE desktop

As a step prior to the release of the KDE Plasma 6.1 desktop environment, the KDE Gear suite of applications, the project announced that KDE Frameworks 6.1 has already been released.

This is the first update of branch 6 and adds more than 80 libraries to those provided by the Qt project (The basis for desktop and application graphical interfaces.

KDE Frameworks 6.1 has already been released

The release of KDE Frameworks 6.1 is the first of three preliminary steps needed for the release of the upcoming KDE Plasma 6.1 desktop environment.. The second and third will be two more updates that will be with us on May 10 and June 7. For the desktop we will have to wait until the middle of that month.

Among the new features included in this first update is a increased dialog box size to add new widgets to the desktop, a filter that gives us the possibility of whether or not we want to see symbolic icons and improved navigation using the keyboard in Kirigami sidebars, the component for creating responsive applications.

At this time when Microsoft seems determined to send computers older than 4 years to the cemetery, free software comes to its rescue and KDE is no exception.
The System Monitor app will now be able to display correctly on computers with Intel graphics cards older than 10 years, in addition to improving the rendering and colors of the horizontal bars in its widgets.

Another improved dialog is the Get New Graphic Elements dialog. Now you can see the progress of downloads better. In addition, the problems that caused an error message in searches were solved, a way was found to download those that only have a single file, and the presentation of the overwriting file message was improved.

Kirigami, which as we said is the library for designing interfaces adaptable to the device, improves the animation when moving applications while those based on QtQuick will no longer show animations if they are globally disabled.

The one that also received better was the song Breeze in which visual consistency was achieved between radio buttons and checkboxes and the rest of the components. Theme and screen selector icons adapt to the system color scheme.

Other improvements have to do with file handling. The Baloo file indexer works better as it now no longer deals with files on temporarily mounted systems and fixes bugs made by the developers. Furthermore, KDE Plasma 6.1 now updates the list of files saved on disk that were recently accessed using the dialog box in the volatile data configuration file.

If you don't want to wait until June to try all these improvements you can download the unstable version of KDE Neon, a distribution based on Ubuntu that is the first to have the improvements released by KDE, of course you should not use it in jobs that need stability.

On the other hand, if you are a Kubuntu or Ubuntu Studio user, you will not be able to enjoy KDE Plasma 6 at least until October
. This desktop was released on February 28, one day before the Debian feature import deadline. Furthermore, since it is a version with extended support, a desktop whose stability was already proven was chosen.

Personally, I am using KDE Neon Unstable and, except for some specific problems with some applications, it works very well.
It loads quickly and apps run smoothly. KDE Neon supports both the use of Flatpak and Snap packages, although in the second case you have to install them from the terminal.

The truth is that I am a "Unity Widow", the original version and not the decaffeinated one that was later abandoned by Canonical. But, Although KDE is my second option, I think this desktop improves day by day.
