KDE Plasma 5.15

A week ago there was the v5.15.1 release of the Plasma graphical environment. Yesterday, KDE announced the KDE Plasma 5.15.2 release, a new version that, like the previous one, arrives with the label of Bugfix. This means that it has focused on fixing bugs that developers and users have been encountering over the last week. Like v5.15.1, we are told that this version also adds translations from the KDE contributors. The launch is «small but important«.

In total, the new version of Plasma includes 23 novelties divided into 8 sections: Discover, KDE GTK configuration, Plasma Addons, Information Center, KWin, Plasma Desktop, Plasma Workspace and xdg-desktop-portal-kde. They highlight the button «Help module» that is activated when it is available, «[about-distro]»That allows distributors to choose between VERSION_ID o VERSION and a fix when selecting multiple files in xdg-desktop-portal-kde.

KDE Plasma 5.15.2 includes 23 new features

Images are now available for download and installation of Plasma Desktop v5.15.2. They mention something that any Linux user should know in the release briefing article: «the easiest way to test them is with a live image booted from a USB. Docker images also provide a quick and easy way to test Plasma«.

As for when the packages needed to install this version will be available from Software Update, if nothing happens should appear in the next few days. The update will be done automatically in the same way that we update any other software from the default servers of any distro that uses the latest versions of Plasma.

Whenever I have to write about KDE I remember what I liked the times I have tried it. The crashes that I experienced in my PC in the past could have been fixed in the last two years, so it is likely that I install Kubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo this April.

"... so I will likely install Kubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo this April.", Hmm ... bad decision. The strong point of Kubuntu is its Point Release LTS version for business or desktop computers with security updates without additions of new features and without installing the Kubuntu Backports. Non-LTS versions are not recommended to use, they come with experimental repositories.

To test Plasma in its most recent version on a totally stable and proven basis, it is best to install the official version of the KDE Team: KDE Neon.
