Plasma 5.16 and KDE Applications 19.04: these are the new features that will include

plasma 5.15.2

plasma 5.15.2

As a Kubuntu user, this news really interests me. Nate graham posted the news that will arrive with Plasma 5.16, a version that will not be available from the beginning in Kubuntu 19.04 Disco Dingo. There are very interesting news, among which we have one that I am going to configure right now to get used to it: we can invoke Dolphin with the keyboard shortcut Meta + E. For those who are wondering, the Meta key is the one with the Windows symbol, as long as the computer was launched with the Microsoft system pre-installed.

As an editor who shoots multiple shots a day, I'm also happy to see that Spectacle will arrive with a new option that will allow us to choose the compression quality of the images. As it cannot be otherwise, Plasma 5.16 will arrive with bug fixes and performance improvements. You have the most outstanding news after the cut.

What's New in Plasma 5.16 and KDE Applications 19.04.0

  • Blender files will show preview images on their icons.
  • We can open Dolphin with the shortcut Meta + E.
  • Spectacle will allow you to choose the compression level.
  • Discover will be able to install applications on openSUSE when package sources are enabled.
  • Discover will no longer crash when disabling Flatpak repositories.
  • The Media Widget will display images correctly and will use less memory.
  • System Preferences will correctly display monochrome icons.
  • Some unconventional Plasma themes will display as they should.
  • Dolphin will also display monochrome icons well.

Improvements in the user's interface

  • Discover's update page has been greatly improved: applications and packages will show different phases of "Downloading" and "Installing". After the installation is complete, it will disappear.
  • Discover displays a "busy" indicator to let us know that it is working by checking for updates.
  • Discover tasks will display a more visually appealing real-time progress bar.
  • Discover will display any AppImage application that is available in https://opendesktop.org in the correct category.
  • Power and battery messages are displayed in a more natural way.
  • The KHelpCenter information has been redesigned.

Given that the numbering of the apps is 19.04.0KDE Applications will most likely be available in 4 weeks with Disco Dingo. Plasma 5.16 will arrive in June. I can only say that I am impatient.
