How to find out what is happening in another work area

WindowsSpy

Surely many of you wonder what are the work areas forWhat function do they have if I really don't know what is happening at that moment. It is a question that many users have asked ourselves at times and that some have launched and continue to launch through forums and the Ubuntu Community.

It is something difficult to explain because there are many things that can be done without seeing the desktop but we can also play with that. We can make the work area in question can be previewed from where we are and thus see when to change and when not.

Thanks to webupd8 we have been able to meet one of the many threads that exist in AskUbuntu. This thread was asking for something to preview the workspace and developer Jacob Vlijm has succeeded.

WindowSpy allows us to view the content of another work area of our Ubuntu

The application in question is called WindowsSpy and it allows us to see a miniature of what happens in another workspace as well as in a virtual machine, so we can have several virtual machines executing a different function and see what happens without changing the desktop. But also, WindowSpy allows you to configure the preview window as well as the keyboard shortcut to activate it.

Unfortunately this program by Jacob Vlijm is not in the official Ubuntu repositories, for this we have to use an external repository. So we open a terminal and write the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:vlijm/windowspy
sudo apt update
sudo apt install windowspy

Now we just have to open the program to configure it, not only the size of the screen but also the rest of the application settings. In any case, we can find more information about the program at the thread from AskUbuntu.
