The versatile Linux Mint desktop in its cinnamon flavor never ceases to amaze us and, this time, it does so through a small applet that allows us to know the download and upload speed of our Internet connection. This small accessory for our desktop launch bar will allow us to have, always in view, the status of our connection and its capabilities.

Its main features include its highly customizable interface, the ability to apply network card affinities and a number of other parameterizable functions. As is customary in Linux Mint Cinnamon, it has a very simple installation and it is the ideal desktop complement to any computer, whether domestic or business.

Download and Upload Speed ​​features

El Download and Upload Speed ​​applet allows to show through a small panel on the desktop bar the network upload and download speeds. If we move with the cursor over it provide us with information through a pop-up window of the total data. By clicking on it, a terminal will will list the equipment connections current and, with another click, we can close the information panel. By last, we can customize both its appearance through two GUI interfaces that it has like alerts that presents about the use of data. These limits and their characteristics can be parameterized to our liking.

Install and use Download and Upload Speed

Para instalar este applet, debemos descomprimir el archivo ZIP que contiene Download and Upload Speed en la ruta: ~ / .local / share / cinnamon / applets. Then we will enable the applet through the desktop settings Cinnamon, by pressing the right mouse button on the applet bar, selecting the option to Add applets to the panel and choosing this same.

For configure applet, we can click with the right button of the mouse on it, and choose the network interface through the submenu «Network Interface». In this way we can indicate what we want to measure.

For change the look, we will click again with the right button of the mouse and in the menu called GUI, we will select the one we want from the two available: compact or an extended version.

    Can tb be installed on other versions of linux mint? For example Xfce.
