Several months ago, still with my old laptop, I decided to install Kubuntu as the main system. Something told me that it would not work as badly as it did some years ago and I was right. One of the reasons I love the KDE Community version of Ubuntu is that it offers so many possibilities right out of the box, and those possibilities increase over time. Something that will be more capable in the future because of something that is already being developed is Console, the Plasma terminal application.
A few hours ago, Tomaz Canabrava posted an entry on your personal blog showing something you are working on. Is about a "splitt" function (divide) that, if nothing happens, will arrive soon at Konsole. If I remember correctly, Ubuntu allows dividing the screen from Xenial Xerus (16.04), but the next function of the Plasma Terminal app will go one point further: it will allow dividing the screen of the same window, as you can see in the video that Canabrava himself has uploaded.
Lots of terminals in a Konsole window
Right now, without having tested it, I can say little or nothing about the exact operation of the function in which its developer works. It seems like, a new "window" can be added by means of a keyboard shortcut, or that is the impression that I get when seeing the new terminals appear suddenly. If we do it this way, it will be Konsole who decides where to open it, something that it seems to do by always starting an instance. Once created, we can move the new instances with the mouse.
What this Konsole spitt offers right now is drag and drop in the following ways:
- A tab to create a new Konsole window.
- The tab back to another window.
- One of the instances to reposition itself on the current tab.
- The divided to another tab.
- One divided to another window (if it is within the name of the process).
This function will not be very useful for an average user, but it will be so for all those who use software that can perform different functions of the same job, such as AirCrack ... it had to be said and was said. What would you use this Konsole "Splitt" function for?
