KPassGen, password generator for KDE

KPassGen

KPassGen is a small tool for KDE that allows us create random passwords up to 1024 characters.

Its creator, Michael Daffin, defines it as an application that «generates random passwords of any length and that can include the letters az, az, as well as numbers and symbols, and any other characters that QString can handle, or hexadecimal values ». KPassGen is distributed under the GPL v2 license.

Use

Using KPassGen is very simple, just open the application, set the length, choose the type of password (alphanumeric, hexadecimal or "pronounceable") and then set each of the available values according to the type of password chosen.

A practical example would be the following: We are going to create five alphanumeric passwords of 8 characters each, including letters (upper and lower case), numbers and symbols. The result would be the following:

On the left side you can see the generated passwords and their potential strength, while on the right side we have the options of the characters included, as well as the following: Custom Character Set, Unique Characters Only y unambiguous, sections that allow us to create passwords with custom characters and no duplicates (removing them if they exist).

When we have found a password that can serve us, just press the "Copy Password" button to send the password to the clipboard and use it wherever we want.

Installation

In case KPassGen is not in the repositories of our distribution, we can always compile the tool by downloading the code from the official site. Another option, for Kubuntu users, is to use the .deb package of this PPA, although it is a bit old that yes (it is for Maverick Meerkat).
