Kube, a new mail client for KDE that will give a lot to talk about

Kube

By default, most Ubuntu-based distributions have Mozilla Thunderbird installed as their mail client. If I have to be honest, I don't know what it is, probably that its interface is not as modern as I expect in a mail client, but I like it so little that I usually uninstall it as soon as I install Ubuntu or any distro that uses it by default. If you are looking for a mail client more interesting, Kube it's a new option that you should give a try when it's publicly available.

But before we talk more about this email client, we have to explain a couple of things: it is an application KDE, which means that its interface will clash a bit if we use it in environments like Unity, MATE or GNOME. On the other hand, this mail client and personal information manager it is built on top of QtQuick and a high performance access layer called Sink.

Kube 0.1.0 now available… for developers

Kube 0.1.0 has been released over the past weekend and this is the first preliminary version o preview of the software. Like all the first versions of any type of software, it is clear that Kube v0.1.0 still has many points to improve, but we can already understand that it will be a great option when it is polished with the passage of time and future versions. To make it clearer, the developer of this email client and personal information manager advises that «This is a technology preview and is not intended for productive use«.

Among the shortcomings of Kube in this first version we have, or rather we do not have, an address book in which to save email addresses or contacts. What seems more serious to me today is that the Gmail support has been described as'not very good«. The user interface is also an aspect that needs to be polished, but we are talking about a very early first version.

Among what we can do with Kube from now on we have important functions such as set up IMAP accounts, read emails even if they are encrypted, move messages, delete them and write emails. The best of this mail client is yet to come, as its developer has promised that it will include a complex group of mail management functions, although he has not provided further details.

The bad, not so bad if we consider that we are talking about a very early version of the software, is that no installation package has been released. Developers who want to test it can do so with the information available at this link.
