Linux Kernel 5.0-rc8 Now Available, Reassures Linus Torvalds

Linux Kernel

In a letter published late Sunday, Linus Torvalds was telling us about the launch and Linux Kernel 5.0-rc8 availability. In that letter, Torvalds says that it was a totally unnecessary release, but that they added patches that should have arrived in rc7 and it was something that worried the father of Linux. There seemed to be no rush, but he checked his mail and there was a patch he hadn't included and he thinks releasing r8 now is the right decision.

Torvals explains that simply you should have checked your mail carefully prior to the release of Linux Kernel 5.0-rc7. He also says that he could have removed the RC tag, applied the patch and not released the previous version, but hey, Linus, take it easy, we get you. Checking your mail when you receive literally thousands of messages is not an easy task for anyone. In addition, the problem is already solved and it was only a short time available with that failure.

Linux Kernel 5.0-rc8 is bigger than rc7

The changes don't seem major, but the Linux Kernel 8 rc5.0 is bigger than rc7. Around 30% of drivers (GPU, RDMA, sound, SCSI ...), 20% of networks and the rest are updates that include corrections, files and others. But be that as it may, Torvalds assures that he is much happier with this extra RC than with the previous one that seemed to be a stone in his shoe.

Linux Kernel 5.0 is expected to be present in all official Ubuntu flavors in the version that will be released on April 18. Ubuntu 19.04 will get the name Disco Dingo and among the most outstanding novelties we will have support for Android (which began as KDE Connect), greater support for icons of the default theme and GNOME 3.32. Of course, we hope that Linus does not pass any mail that worries him and all of us who install Ubuntu 19.04 on the Thursday of its launch.
