Linux 5.10-rc4 hasn't worked to calm things down yet

Linux 5.10-rc4

Last week, Linus Torvalds He launched the third Release Candidate of the Linux kernel version currently in development labeled normal. Yesterday Sunday He launched Linux 5.10-rc4, and this time he can't say the same. At this point, what is expected is that everything begins to calm down, but 5.10 has not done so and there is still some noise everywhere. But, surprise, the quiet Finn says that there is nothing in particular that makes him worry.

In fact, Torvalds says that, being one third of the self-test updates and fixes, some of that hubbub is welcome. What is true is that hope that next week there will be less changes and everything starts going its usual way. Furthermore, it is believed that this launch will be one of those boring ones, in the sense that the roller coaster will not be the most extreme.

Linux 5.10 will be a quiet release

We are getting to the point in the rc series where I start to wait for things to calm down.. 5.10 hasn't settled down yet, and there's a fair amount of small noise everywhere. Nothing that particularly worries me, and honestly, with about a third of the patch being various self-tests in mind for updates and fixes, some of that noise is certainly welcome, but I'm hoping that next week I will start to see fewer real changes.

Reading the words of Torvalds, nothing makes us think that Linux 5.10 is going to be one of those releases that needs an eighth RC, one that would arrive on December 20, but most likely its stable version will land on the next December 13. It will be an LTS version but, taking into account that Hirsute Hippo will not be, it is most likely that they will go directly to Linux 5.11 that will arrive at the end of February or the beginning of March.
