Linux 5.14-rc6 arrives after another quiet week with nothing remarkable

Linux 5.14-rc6

Since I've been following the Linux Release Candidates, I don't remember development as smooth as 5.14. The normal thing is that something happens, even if it is due to a storm that leaves many people without power, but this time we report week after week that everything is going perfectly well. That is what has said again Linus Torvalds after the launch of Linux 5.14-rc6, that this is a pretty normal week, like seven days ago and in practically all the previous CRs.

The Finnish developer will know more than I do about his project, the one that began to present it at the end of his career and continues with its development today, but it doesn't seem so normal to me like him. If by "normal" you mean that there is nothing remarkable, yes, you are right; but if you mean "usual", it doesn't seem like it, since there is almost always a problem in the form of a bug or regression, but none of that is appearing this time.

Linux 5.14-rc6 continues the good trend

Another pretty normal week. A little over half are driver fixes (network, sound, gpu, block are most of it, but there are other noises in there too), with the other half being the usual mix: architecture, filesystems (ceph and cifs), kernel kernel and networking, and some documentation fixes. There is nothing that catches my attention. Go and try, we should be pretty close to finishing with this version ...

It would not be the first time that something is perfect and breaks right at the end. If that doesn't happen, Linux 5.14 will be released on next August 29. Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri will arrive on October 14, so the dates fit in for this to be the core of the next version of Canonical's operating system.
