Linux 5.14-rc7 should be the last RC before next week's stable release

Linux 5.14-rc7

Well. One more Sunday since 5.14 began to develop, and another Sunday in which everything is going smoothly. It's not finished yet, but that's how development has been from day one. A few moments ago, Linus Torvalds launched Linux 5.14-rc7, and we have to say the same as in the past week and almost all the others.

Finnish developer says Linux 5.14-rc7 it is probably the last RC before the release of the final version. He has not found anything strange, so if he continues like this and as expected from what he was telling us week after week, the stable version of 5.14 is close, as soon as seven days away.

Linux 5.14-rc7 will give the witness to the stable version

So things continue to look normal, and unless there is some last minute panic this coming week, this is probably the last rc before a 5.14 final. Much of the discussion I saw last week was about things scheduled for the next merge window, and nothing here seems particularly strange or scary. Most of the changes here are drivers (highlighting the GPU and network), and the rest are pretty random stuff: architectures, tracing, core network, a couple of VM fixes.

If nothing happens, Linux 5.14 will arrive as a stable version next Sunday 29 August. Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri will be released on October 14, so nothing makes us think that this is not the kernel version that includes the final version. They should update the Daily Build kernel soon in what will be the first of the last serious steps. Shortly after, they will release the wallpaper, launch the beta and, three weeks later, we will be able to use the naughty indri officially.
