If there are no shocks in the next two weeks, everything seems to be ready. After a rc5 that had already reduced its sizeLinus Torvalds He launched yesterday Linux 5.19-rc6 in a very quiet week, one of those in which it could be said that the news is that there is no news. The Finnish developer says that perhaps there has been something unusual, some corrections that were pending and that he did not want to postpone more.
Although everything seems to have gone smoothly and reading Torvalds it is difficult for us to feel that something bad is happening, If we had not made those corrections, we could have had an eighth RC now., something that can never be completely ruled out until the same day that the stable version is going to be released; if necessary, what it launches baptizes it as rc8.
Linux 5.19-rc6 has received untimely fixes
Things look pretty normal for rc6, nothing here really stands out. A number of small fixes throughout, with most being a collection of network and sound driver fixes, along with some arm64 dts file updates. The rest is some self-test updates, and various (mostly) lines of work all over the place. The blog below gives a good overview, and is short enough to scroll through to get a flavor of it all. Perhaps somewhat unusual, I picked up some fixes that were pending in trees that haven't actually made it upstream yet. It's already rc6, and I wanted to close some of the regression reports and not have to wait for another (possibly last, knock on wood) rc to have them in the tree.
Linux 5.19-rc6 is the sixth Release Candidate of the version currently in development, and if everything goes the same way we will have a stable version on Sunday 24 July.
