Linux 5.3-rc6 arrives celebrating the 28th anniversary of Linux

Linux 5.3-rc6 birthday

Today is Linux's birthday. Linus Torvalds, the core developer, has taken advantage of the Linux 5.3-rc6 release to congratulate you on your anniversary. Today, August 25, 28 years ago it released the first version and since then it has rained a lot. Part of what posted in his weekly circular it has been a copy / paste of what he published in 1991, probably because there has been no noteworthy news to mention in the last week.

The highlight this week is that Linux 5.3-rc6 is a little bigger than i expected, but nothing serious. Or that is what he wants us to believe, because the last thing he tells us this week is that «however if things don't calm down over the next week you may need to do a rc8«. The latter gives us the impression that although we are not supposed to worry, the final version of Linux 5.3 could present more problems than other releases.

Linux 5.3-rc6: nothing to worry about ... but development could take longer

According to Torvalds, there is nothing surprising from last week and the majority of the patch is drivers, having mostly focused on network and rdma drivers. With respect to linux birthday, Torvalds has published a phrase that he already published 28 years ago:

I'm making a (free) operating system (more than just a hobby) for 486 AT clones and a lot of other hardware. This has been brewing for the last 28 years, and it's not finished yet. I would like any comments on any of bugs introduced in this version (or older bugs, too).

Today, 28 years after the first version, Linux is used in millions of devices, the most famous being desktop systems, but it is also present in servers, clouds and devices of the Internet of Things. For all that, happy birthday, Linux.
