Linux 5.4-rc2 arrives returning the schedule to the usual Sundays

Linux 5.4-rc2

After a first Release Candidate that was published on Monday, Linux 5.4-rc2 has returned to Sundays. Its creator, Linus Torvalds, said last week that the reason it was released on Monday was not because of anything special or anything to worry about, but because of different programming. This week, that schedule has returned to its natural state, so they have had six days of preparation instead of the usual seven.

Linux 5.4-rc2 seems like the calmest Release Candidate in months. The news is that there is no news, nothing prominent beyond that has been launched on Sunday, and this is only news because the first Release Candidate was released on Sunday. But what is also true is that, as point Torvalds, rc2s are usually quiet and you have to wait a while and versions for problems to be discovered.

Linux 5.4-rc2 is small again, after the big rc2s of 5.2 and 5.3

Linux 5.4-rc2 has returned to being a small Release Candiate, as they usually are and not as they were in 5.2 and 5.3. Torvalds says that one of the reasons we have mentioned above these lines: there has been one less day of work. In the six they have had, they have addressed updates of architectures, drivers and miscellaneous (kmv, networks, file systems, kernel, etc), all distributed equally.

Linux 5.4 will be the next major release and will be available in late November or early December. It will not include as many important news as the Linux kernel v5.3, but it will add a new security module that, among other things, will prevent a malicious user from taking advantage of system failures to perform remote code execution, something they have called Lockdown. The function will be deactivated by default and it will be the distributions who will be in charge of deciding whether to activate it or not.
