Linux already has a patch prepared for the sound problem in AMD

Linux will repair AMD sound

From what it seems, something I have not been able to verify because my laptops are Intel, for at least two years there has been problem with audio on AMD computers + Linux that made analog audio input sound distorted and crackling or popping. The problem is related to some Realtek audio codecs, but the days of the nightmare are numbered.

The patch is now ready and queued for fix bug in Linux 5.3, the kernel version currently in development and due to be released in September. But if you are users of, for example, LTS versions of the kernel, good news: the patch is marked to also carry other stable versions of the kernel, which means that, once prepared, it will fix the sound problems of all AMD users, as long as they are also using a kernel version that is still supported.

AMD sound issue will disappear in all supported kernel versions

As we have already mentioned, there are reports of this problem for more than two years (here you have one from September 2017). The problem appears on the audio input, that is, when trying to record it. What should happen is that a faithful and clean sound is recorded, but what many experience is that the sound they record contains pops or a distorted sound.

The bug affects many AMD chips, among which are the X370, X470 and others linked to the Realtek audio codec. Initially, the problem should appear only when capturing the audio with the analog input, but some users they claim that they have also experienced "occasional reproductive problems." Takashi Iwai from SUSE, who is in charge of maintaining the sound on Linux, has managed to fix the bug and it will be available in the next few weeks.

Personally, I open an umbrella, i think linux sound could improve a lot, at least when listening to music with headphones. Yes, it can sound good, but by adjusting the equalizer. If we add these other problems of bad sound by default, bad business. Have you had problems with the sound on your Linux and / or AMD PC?
