Linux Mint 18.1 KDE Edition, Xfce Edition and LMDE Linux Mint week?

Linux Mint 18.1 Serena

At the end of this week Clement Lefebvre has announced and published the new versions of the official flavors of Linux Mint, that is, Linux Mint 18.1 KDE Edition and Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition. But also an iso image of LMDE 2, also known as Betsy, has been published.

These versions are based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with the exception of LMDE 2 which is based on Debian and which is also a rolling release distribution, so LMDE users surely already have the news of this version.

We had Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition RC for days and it was expected to come out in a few days but it did not. A delay with Linux Mint 18.1 Kde Edition caused by problems with the incorporation of certain software has made it last January 27 when we could download the iso images of these versions.

Linux Mint 18.1 Kde Edition had delays with its development

Linux Mint 18.1 Kde Edition incorporates the KDE backports repository as well as Plasma version 5.8.5. In the case of Linux Mint 18.1 Xfce Edition, the official flavor features Xfce 4.12, Whisker Menu 1.6.2 and the famous Linux Mint XApps.

Both versions are based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS so they have the latest LTS version of the Linux kernel, that is, the 4.4 kernel. Both versions also have the news of Linux Mint 18.1, news that we already told you here. In the case of LMDE, the distribution is based on a Debian branch, a little different from Ubuntu and has other options such as a more updated kernel or more current versions of programs.

If you use these flavors, through the software manager you can receive this latest version, but if you want to try any of these flavors, in this link You will find a way to download the official iso images to install Linux Mint 18.1 KDE Edition, Xfce Edition or LMDE 2.
