Linux Mint 18 "Sarah" KDE Now Available

mint-kde-5.6

The new version of Linux Mint 18 "Sarah" in its edition KDE so much in 32 as in 64 bits. The edition is based on LTS and therefore its support is guaranteed until the year 2021. Among the novelties that we will find are a set of updated programs and new functionalities to make the use of this desktop more comfortable.

The system requirements, you know, a little higher than in the rest of the desktop (2 GB of RAM, 10 GB of hard disk although 20 GB and a resolution of 1024 × 768 are recommended for proper use). But if you are followers of Plasma, this will never have been an inconvenience for you. Just a little warning: It is not possible to perform a system update if you are using Linux Mint 17.3 KDEAs this edition uses Plasma 5 and is considered a totally new desktop.

Linux Mint and KDE do not need presentations on our website since everyone knows both. The novelties brought by the 18th edition of this system, called "Sarah" (and following the series of women's names), are listed below. we comment long time. This version with desktop KDE includes some improvements focused on its new environment, between them:

  • plasma 5.6 and the new manager SSDM: The new plasma edition will captivate you from the first moment. And if you don't believe us, take a look at this video.

  • New settings in the Update Manager: Update Manager has been improved both visually and in its behavior. Now they are used widgets and animations as an alternative to the classic icons. However, these are still available although enhanced with capabilities such as dynamic colors or gradient texts. It is also possible to select the kernel updates that we want to carry out, up to a total of 5 Niveles that can be configured independently. In this regard, the descriptions of these updates have been simplified, since so much detail did not provide much information to users.
  • System Improvements: the command apt de Mint now supports all the modifiers that originally included the same command under Debian and that Ubuntu also incorporates. Indeed, in 2007 this command was included in Linux Mint and since then it performs the same function that it originally did in Debian, but without all the functionalities of the original. From now on they are all included. Besides, now apt shows a progress bar when installing or uninstalling packages.
  • Image gallery improvements: have been included gorgeous new images to use as wallpapers.

If I'm not mistaken, it should say LTS instead of LTE.
